    Almaty, Kazakhstan, rocked by earthquake

    An earthquake struck Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, on Monday, prompting panic among residents who fled outdoors as sirens blared, according to a report by Reuters. The tremor, with a magnitude estimated at about 5 by Kazakhstan’s emergencies ministry, reverberated through the city, causing buildings to shake and sending dozens of people scrambling for safety. Residents described scenes of chaos and confusion as the ground trembled beneath them, with some rushing out of their homes and into the streets in fear of aftershocks.
